Things of Beauty: Independent Earrings

We know. Shopping small isn't easy, and seeking out hidden gems isn't always possible when you're straddling a baby/food baby on one hip and laptop dramas on the other. If you're like me, present buying will often take place at Oliver Bonas/ Paperchase at the train station - en route to your sister's house remembering that - shit - you are going to be the only person turning up empty handed to the party.

But when it comes to earrings, the friendly, one size fits all outfit uplifter, independent designers are coming out in force. The contents of this article are going to induce some serious ear envy. My advice? Buy up a few pairs now (+ one for yourself, obvs). Be that person you always wanted to be - the one with a 'present draw'. And next time you're in a rush, whip out a perfectly priced pair of independent earrings to dazzle, adorn and contribute to your inner feelings of smugness and canny small business support. Thank me later.

These wavy stud speckled hoops are by Yolk friend Aliyah Hussain who makes her instantly eye-catching hand decorated jewellery from Manchester's Islington Mill. As a lover of hoops, I see these wavy guys as the hoop's wacky older sister. A family favourite, natural showstopper and unique work of art. Grab 'em while you can.

Kate Trouw's jewellery design blows my tiny mind. A celebration of experimentation and colour, these polymer clay wiggle earrings are handmade in Fife, Scotland. They scream F U N.

Somebody take me away from Dinosaur Designs before I blow my mortgage on their freakishly covetable range of earrings. In the name of loyalty to the Sunday Times Style piece that inspired my love for this store, I have chosen to include the adjacent pair of forest green resin hoops. All products are hand made in Australia and each piece is unique.
