Like ships passing in the night, our relationship with the month of December is both intense and brief, anticipated like nothing else, and mourned with hardiness unknown. We’re all aboard the Christmas locomotive with no control or time to enjoy the ride.

One of the best additions to Manchester this year, YES is much more than a a music-lovers nirvana thanks to its eclectic and inclusive gigs and event programme.

Back on the bill is YES FAM their festive family day in collaboration with Born To Be Wild Child - the daytime Rock & Roll party for the mamas and papas who are well and truly done with Elf and Arthur Christmas re-runs.

Replete with Christmas stocking workshops, screen printing with Square Pegs, tattoo transfers and Above The Line cinema screenings, plus a swathe of pop-up shops, this is most certainly the tonic to your usual Santa’s Grotto Groundhog Day and ‘Farts in a Can’ noise machine.

Do not pass GO without a pit-stop at Firebird Hope, Yes’s resident burger king. Hand on heart the best chicken burger we’ve ever had pass our lips. The Level-up Burger, a heavenly medley of free-range chicken thigh, koji mayo, house slaw, pickles, and lovingly served in a sourdough bun will certainly go down well with the fam.

Even better, free entry for all.

If you haven’t checked out 33 Oldham Street over in the Northern Quarter just yet, it’s well worth a visit.

Spread over 3 floors, its decor is in part inspired by Japan’s famous Omakase joints, with its intimate listening room playing homage to the jazz cafes and vinyl bars frequented in Tokyo since the 1950s.

Part workspace, part bar and events space, the impressive sound system really takes centre stage and we’re excited for their impressive musical programme, including selector’ sessions showcasing the exploratory side of a DJ’s record collection.

Flex Yoga - Namaste it’s Humpday (genius) takes place on the top floor of 33 next Wednesday with Alexis so you can schedule in a bit of me time as a gift to yourself this Christmas.

Underway, A nomadic project space in the heart of Manchester city centre brings 12 days of Christmas to the former railway station next Saturday and it’s going to be a real Christmas showstopper.

We really like the blend of workshops with the likes of Easy Peel Studio and Bottle Candle Co as part of their gift making experiences, not to mention supper from Stockport based, Where The Light Gets In.

Potentially the last party you can squeeze in before the big day itself, we think a visit to Mayfield is a must this festive season.

Tickets available from Eventbrite

Castlefield Gallery - The Ground Beneath Your Feet - Running until February 2019

Castlefield gallery’s latest exhibition, The Ground Beneath Your Feet feels pertinent and necessary after a lengthy period of tumultuous politics and cultural change across the globe.

In a world plighted by international challenges, from the refugee crisis, increasing environmental catastrophes and rising inequality, The Ground Beneath Your Feet, seeks to instigate more nuanced and balanced conversations on the matters affecting geopolitics right now.

As part of The With One Voice International Arts and Homelessness Summit & Festival, the exhibition will run until February 2019, bringing together the work of artists, activists and campaigners. In the context of global tragedy and upheaval, this exhibition asks how do we relate to the ground beneath our feet.

All Day Every Day in December

Not only do we love a bit of wordplay here at Yolklore, but like many we are partial to a festive bake, so when we heard that the lovely folk at Beastro had created their very own #BestiveFake we knew this was news we just had to share.

This is truly taking the festive food game up a notch, and honestly delivering on so many levels. We’re talking the real deal: turkey, cranberry sauce, chestnut stuffing, sautéed sprouts, chunks of cured smoked bacon and pigs in blankets, signed, sealed and delivered in a package of mouthwatering pastry.

Dreams really do come true guys. Available throughout December at Beastro Spinningfields
